This project will explore how sounded gestures and images may be captured, intertwined, and developed through a semi-structured improvised performance. This approach will allow the artists to make manifest creative abstractions that stem from collaborative auditory and visual experiences, with the potential of generating an interdisciplinary framework for multimodal composition. In this iteration, we will explore dialectical mapping strategies between an electric guitarist and a visual artist, whereby physical and figurative music gestures will be recorded and interpreted by the visual artist using bespoke software. Audio signals will be analyzed for pitch, timbre, and volume, and the resulting data will inform, in part, the generation of an original visualization. Further, data representing the real-time movements of the musician will also inform the parametric control of the generative visualization, forging a mutually influential performance relationship.
